Frequently Asked Questions

Recently we have had questions regarding usage, serviceability and some of the specialized components that are a part of your MB sports surf boat. Listed below are the questions that are most frequently asked and the recommendations we feel are appropriate. These are recommendations; the final decision is ultimately the customer’s.

THE BALLAST GUAGES ARE READING THE HARD TANK LEVELS. THESE READINGS ARE MOSTLY ACCURATE. TO ENSURE BALLAST TANKS ARE COMPLETELY EMPTY, OPEN THE BALLAST LEVERS WHEN THE BOAT IS OUT OF THE WATER. 

THE SURF SYSTEM ONLY WORKS WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVE/ON AND THEN TRY PUSHING SURF LEFT OR RIGHT. IF YOUR SURF TABS STILL DO NOT DEPLOY TRY TURNING OFF YOUR BATTERIES FOR 2 MINUTES AND RESTARTING. IF PROBLEMS PERSIST PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MB DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. 

ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO LET THE BOAT CYCLE BEFORE STARTING. SOMETIMES IF YOU START THE BOAT BEFORE THE INITIAL CYCLE IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION, THE CYCLE IS NOT COMPLETE AND SOME FUNCTIONS DON’T WORK PROPERLY. TURN THE BOAT OFF, TURN THE BATTERIES OFF FOR 2-3 MINUTES, THEN TURN THE BATTERIES ON, PUT THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION AND WAIT 30 SECONDS, THEN START THE BOAT.

IF YOUR FRONT BALLAST BAG (IF EQUIPPED) IS NOT FILLING MAKE SURE YOU CAN HEAR THE PUMP RUNNING AND THAT YOU HIT THE TOP OF THE BAR GRAPH. THIS IS A REVERSIBLE PUMP AND COULD BE DRAINING INSTEAD OF FILLING. IF YOUR REAR BAGS ARE NOT FILLING, FIRST MAKE SURE THE BALLAST LEVERS TO THE HARD TANKS ARE IN THE CLOSED POSITION. IF THESE ARE CLOSED AND THE PUMP IS RUNNING BUT THE BAG IS NOT FILLING MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO KINKS IN THE HOSE AND THAT THE PUMP INTAKE VALVES UNDER THE TRANSMISSION LID ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. LAST CHECK IF THE PUMP IS AIR LOCKED BY JIGGLING THE INTAKE HOSE, YOU CAN ALSO PULL THE CONNECTOR GOING INTO THE BAG AND SUCK ONTO THE INTAKE HOSE TO FORCE THE AIR THROUGH. 

YES, THE MB SPORTS BALLAST SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO EMPTY IN 30-60 SECONDS WITH THE BOAT ON PLANE. THE FACTORY EQUIPPED PLUG AND PLAY BAGS WILL EMPTY INTO THE HARD TANKS AND OUT OF THE BOAT THROUGH THE QUICK FILL BALLAST VALVES.

NO, ALWAYS EMPTY YOUR TANKS BEFORE TOWING. THE TRAILER IS NOT DESIGNED TO CARRY THE EXTRA WEIGHT.

NO, IT IS BEST TO TOW WITH A TOWABLE BOAT COVER ONLY IF YOU ARE TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES AND ARE UNSURE OF ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. TOWING WITH THE BOAT COVER CAN CAUSE CHAFING ON THE GEL COAT. 

THE RAPTOR 400/440 REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 89 OCTANE. THE ROUSH SUPERCHARGED RAPTOR 575 REQUIRES 93 OCTANE OR HIGHER.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE SERVICED AFTER THE FIRST 10-20 HOURS. AFTER THE INITIAL SERVICE IT SHOULD BE DONE ONCE A YEAR OR 75 HOURS REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF HOURS USED DURING THE SEASON. CONSULT YOUR INDMAR SERVICE MANUAL FOR SPECIFIC SERVICE MILESTONES.

GREASE LIGHTLY 2-3 TIMES A YEAR, OVER GREASING CAN CAUSE YOUR BOAT TO STEER OR TURN HARD.

INDMAR USES AND RECOMMENDS A SEMI-SYNTHETIC OIL MEETING THE API RATING OF SN FOR USE IN ALL ITS ENGINES. CONSULT YOUR INDMAR SERVICE MANUAL FOR SPECIFIED FLUIDS.

ANY GOOD BOAT SOAP OR MILD DISHWASHING LIQUID SOAP WORKS GREAT (1-2 CAPFULS OF LIQUID SOAP TO ONE GALLON OF WATER). PLEASE USE GENEROUSLY AND CHANGE TOWELS OFTEN. RINSE WITH WATER AND DRY IMMEDIATELY. WASH THE BOAT IN A SHADED AREA, TRYING TO AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

MAKE SURE YOUR TIRES ARE FILLED TO MAXIMUM LISTED CAPACITY WHEN COLD. LOW TIRE PRESSURE BUILDS HEAT, CAUSING EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR AND IN SOME CASES CAN CAUSE TIRE FAILURE. CHECK YOUR TIRE FOR MAX PSI RATING.

THE TRIM TAB IS USED TO ASSIST THE BOAT IN GETTING ON PLANE, OR LENGTHENING THE WAVE. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO BE DEPLOYED AT 30% DOWN OR MORE ABOVE SPEEDS OF 25 MPH. DOING SO CAN CAUSE FAILURE AND POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO YOUR BOAT THAT IS CONSIDERED ABUSE AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

TOWING YOUR BOAT WITH THE BIMINI TOP DEPLOYED WILL VOID THE WARRANTY. THE BIMINI TOP IS NOT DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE FORCE GENERATED WHEN TOWING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALWAYS COLLAPSE YOUR BIMINI TOP AND STOW IN A SAFE LOCATION BEFORE TRAILERING YOUR BOAT.
